i recently did a socratic seminar... there are two follow up questions to write a paper on, we are required to write a paper on one of the two questions.
- The first question was...the second great awakening was the impetus for a series of reform movements in the mid- nineteenth centure. asses the validity of that statement. include at least three reforms that had their origin in the awakening.
- the second was... during this period 1820-1860, how did american religious leaders and intellectuals creat a national culture commited to the leberation of the human spirit? how do their efforts relate the the efforts of social reformers.
Which one would you do, and what do they WANT ME TO ANSWER>?
Umm, I'd answer the first one only because I have no idea what the second one is talking about (I took the subject last year didn't pay much attention...).
So anyways, the question is basically asking you to say how the Second Great Awakening started a series of reform movements and use three of them as examples. Here are some threads about the reform, but note that they are all from DBQ questions. And do try the links, there's more info there if you need it.
