The tariff of 1828

I'm trying to study for a test today, and I 'm just wondering if I have this right--
Tariff of 1828:
>Started by angry Jacksonites who wanted Adams out of office
>the bill was more concerned with manufacturing a president than with protecting manufacturers
>push the dues up to 45% on some manufactured items
>heavy tariff on some raw materials (like wool)

But I'm not really sure why they started this to begin with. Wouldn't there have been better ways to make people hate Adams more than they already did? :confused:

Also, all I know about lng term effects is that it passed and a lot of consumers got really mad. But why did the southern states get so angry about the tariffs?
