Western Development & American Farmers

57. Explain how THREE of the following influenced the development of the last West from the 1850s to 1900.
miners cattlemen farmers
immigrants cities

59. To what extent were the problems of American farmers in the period 1865-1900 caused (a) by big business and government policy and (b) by farmers' own decisions?

Can I get a little info on how to start these...thanks.

I suggest that you make a list of the information that you have for that time period, and then start seperating them into the different parts of your question. Like, for the first one, list everything that you know about the development of the west and then distinguish which group was the cause.

Or you could go the other way, and think about everything that the miners could have done to influence the development of the west. Then look at the cattlemen and so on and so forth.

Thats what I have...I think I want to focus on the Miners, Farmers, and I need one more...If you could help or anybody that would be great, if you don't have time don't worry about it.

Well, you could talk about Chinese immigrants. They (if I do have my time periods correct...I'm not entirely sure) practically made most of the railroad tracks in the far west. And then talk about how without railroads, the western cities and miners and such wouldn't be able to function alone. That's the best I can come up with without looking at my books at home.
