I was disappointed to find that my class was going to use American History: A Survey by Alan Brinkley (I was hoping we were using American Pageant, since I found this awesome site here...oh well).

Barons and Kaplan both publish reliable APUS books, as well as books in other areas. The Cliffnotes version isn't too bad, either, and it's easy to read. Any of the big names will really give you the same thing, but it all depends on what kind of style you like.

I'm using the fancy new AP edition of American Pageant as well, and it's rather flashy. I think I could impress fellow history buffs with it. :)

I have a 2 year AP US History program at my school. We Used American Pageant last year but we switched books. We are now using "The National Experience: A History of the United States" Does anyone have notes on this book or know a site?? Does anyone else even use this book?? I would appreciate it if you could give me some help so i don't get stuck reading 30 pages a chapter for the rest of the year.

THanks
