Start with an introduction, something to tell the teacher you know whats behind what you are doing an essay on.

Next, and most important, create a good and solid Thesis that states your position exactly and clearly. A bad thesis is a bad essay.

Depending on the subject, you want 2-4 body paragraphs to back-up your thesis, using specific quotes if necessary. In those bodies, you should include specific information as well as a time line and outlines, anything to back up your thesis.

Finally, you want to restate your thesis and key facts in a conclusion, and end with something to catch your teacher.

Overall, thesis is what you really need to focus on.

Hope this helps.
