Money--how I wish you grew on trees.
Guys, we're in highschool. We're about to be hit by a tsuanami of expenses--application fees, SAT costs, AP/IB exam fees, college tuition, car payments, cell phone bills. Really, the depressing list goes on and on.
What can we do?
Well, first off, for those of you experiencing serious financial hardships--talk to your counselors. There are forms you can fill out to be eligible for free/reduced lunch, and there are means through which you can get financial assistance when it comes to paying for multiple AP exams and SAT tests.
Also, get a job! I work, and a good majority of my friends work as well. Sure, we're taking the most demanding courses...and yes, we are in the top 5% of our graduating high school class--but that doesn't mean we don't have time or energy to work. As long as your hours don't exceed twenty a week, getting a job gives gives you a definite means of procuring money for all of the crazy expenses knocking at your doorstep. And it's also true that many businesses/employers are willing to work with us students when it comes to scheduling around school and leaving enough time for us to do our homework, and breathe.
Aside from that...SCHOLARSHIPS! Apply! Apply! Apply! There are billions of dollars given out in scholarships each year, with the criteria ranging from need to merit.
Do yourself and your parents a great favor by working hard at all you do...it'll pay off in the end (literally!).
