Mistakes in the copying of DNA during, or just before, cell division occurs ? for example, the wrong bases become paired up
Damage to the DNA ? some environmental conditions can alter the sequencing of DNA (radioactive materials ? mutagens, such as carcinogens, which cause cancer)

I was born into a colored family, and as a baby, I remember my parents talking about the KKK. They were a group of people who hated blacks like me. Apparently we were ?different?. My parents always worried about them, and each night before bed we thanked God for keeping us safe.
