I need help on a paper i am supossed to write for A.P.U.S History....

Althought New Engliand and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by the people of English origin, by 1700 the regions evolved into two distinct societies. Why did this difference in development occur?

I know that Chesapeake profited from Tobacco and they were the richest colony, and New England was the poorest because of soil, and growing season, but i dont feel like its strong enough
