For or against?
Personally, I'm against.
- It's rather hypocritical (lets show you how wrong killing is by killing you).
-There is no way to be absolutely 100% positive that that the accused did the crime, so punishment shouldn't be so irreversible (not to say that prison time is truly irreversible, but you can be released if later found not guilty)
- I don't see it as that much of crime deterrent, if you have the amount of motivation neccessary to commit a crime that is worthy of the death penalty, I don't think it would stop you.
And this is personal opinion of course, but given the choice of life behind bars or the death penalty, I'd definitely take the death penalty.
