Derek Mason 3/31/11 section 106 The Effect Of Light Intensity And Light Color On Photosynthetic Rates Introduction Photosynthesis is the process in which light energy is converted into chemical energy that is stored in sugars and other organic compounds. It occurs within the thylakoids of a plant?s chloroplasts. Photosynthesis is divided into two main processes. They are the light-dependent reactions and the light- independent reactions. In the light-dependent reactions, photons are absorbed by pigment molecules which are embedded within the thylakoid membrane, and the energy of the photons is used to excite an electron within a reaction center. The excited electron is then passed onto plastoquinone, an electron
