History of art Art history is a very extensive topic because expressing oneself through art has been a practice for as long as we know. Cave drawings have been found dating back to 30,000 BC! Between 10,000 and-8,000 BC, rocks became the new art palette, and paintings became more abstract and symbolic. Part of art history that is very well known is the time period from 3200-1340 BC, when the Ancient Egyptians were building tombs, pyramids, and other structures. They also decorated these tombs with paintings of the gods of the afterlife. There is much more to be said of art history for the period before the beginning of what is known as AD. The Aegean time period, 3000-1100 BC, brought us open architecture and marble idols, and the Greeks of 800-323 BC glorified the human form.
