Levels of Measurement Nominal- Categorical..think name- i.e. ?boy/girl,? ?male/female,? political parties, religious affiliation, etc Not an equal distance between- there is no way to put it in any type of order (one cannot be said to be higher than the other) It is the naming level Ordinal- Order(i.e. freshman, sophomore, Jr., Sr.) Rank order from high to low, but it does not tell us how much higher or lower It is a relative standing of the participants, but not the differences between them Examples: height (tallest, then second tallest, etc), ranking hand lotion preference order Interval- Has a zero point, but not a true one because it can be negative (i.e. weather in degrees F or C) Example: intelligence (we don?t know what constitutes absolute zero intelligence)
