It is an autobiographical book which portrays racism in the 1930's. Jem and Scout live in a small American town, where they are exposed to many evils, in many shapes and forms. Their father's unpopularity when he fights for a Negro in trouble revels other Mockingbirds. It is a very powerful book, and draws the reader to read on. Harper lee achieves this by creating suspense.
