Not many raw materials therefor relied heavily on trade from other places
Geography and Resources
Plants and animals mainly the same in the Mediterranean region which meant when nasty storms rolled in relocation was fairly simply for the families moving constantly
Greek civilization arose in the lands boarding the Aegean sea, the islands in the Aegean and the W. coast of Anatolia, you could cross the water easily making it a connector not a barrier
No large rivers= Farmers reliant on rainfall but marble and clay = abundant. Metal and timber = very little resources
Greeks like sea b/c sea transport easier, cheaper, and faster than overland transport
