Amanda Guth Mr. O?Neill AP US History II October 11, 2011 During the years 1917 to 1921, the United States underwent a transformation politically. No longer did simple liberal and conservative matters divide the house; a broad spectrum of foreign policy beliefs pertaining the ever-controversial Treaty of Versailles also added to ongoing disputes. Following World War I, democrat President Woodrow Wilson proposed this Treaty in hopes to create a League of Nations. This was an organization under which each nation would be represented and would adjourn in order to solve disputes peacefully. However, the strength of the opposition of the senate in regards to the League and the stubbornness of Woodrow Wilson lead to the defeat of the Treaty of Versailles.
