Greek tragedy, Oedipus the King, the chorus is used to explain the play and provide a background for the audience. They serve other roles, such as providing the actors on stage with insight and representing the population, thus allowing the audience to see how they should properly react to the on goings on stage. So much of the flow of a Greek production during this time was dependent on the chorus but their most important function in Oedipus the King was to keep the audience informed and cognizant.
