The Silk Road *The Silk Road was a trade route that linked the lands of the Mediterranean to China by Mesopotamia, Iran, and Central Asia. A. Origins and Operations 1) Because of their location between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, the Parthians became a major part of the Silk Road. They were geographically in the middle of many civilizations, and this created great opportunities for trade. 2) The Chinese founded the Silk Road. It started when General Zhang Jian learned that the horses bred in China were bred worse than other civilizations. The Silk Road was then used to trade and receive many items essential to life.
