Mrs. Fouts 20 October 2010 Joseph Addison: Ridicule Ridicule and humor is something we inherited and grew upon since birth, and the fact is that we would laugh at anything that we deemed as funny. But is a good deed something we can laugh at? Joseph Addison argues against an everyday virtue, or more specifically, human nature. He take?s this issue head-on, and shows us how most jokes are not just there to ease the tension, but to create it as well. Hence, I qualify Addison?s position on this issue based from the idea of how some jokes are funny, but are also used wrongly in an ironic matter.
