Early 18th Century Continental Design: September 25, 2009 -1715- Louis XIV died and a change of style came about (more delicate, relaxed and fun-loving). Went back to hotel in Paris. -For the next 20 years there is r?gence. -Style rocaille-rock work, shells, plants and water, suggests that artists and designers are taking their inspiration on the natural world and turning their back on classical style. (Anti-classical) -Rococo era is the most obvious example of Anti-classical. -Nature and the movement that comes from nature -The Camode/Chesterdrawers dominate the early 18th Century-different approach of ward surfacing. -furniture was low, against the dato rail on the wall -had 3 or 4 drawers -lots of movement ?convex, concave, convex = surpentine movement
