1. Political Party- a group of political activists who organize to win elections, operate the government and dominate public policy. Interest groups- do not want to operaq1 te government to put forth political candidates, tend to sharpen stance on issues vs. parties who broaden them. Faction- A group or bloc in a legislature or political party acting in pursuit of some special interest or position. Basic Functions of A Political Party: 1. Recruiting candidates for public office- b/c goal to gin control, recruit to oppose candidates in all offices, and incumbents. 2. Organizing and Running elections- voter registration drives, volunteers, provide most of campaign activity, work to stimulate voter participation.
