Most of the ancestors to Native Americans came to North and South America via a temporary land bridge between Siberia and Alaska, which was created during the Great Ice Age. Over the centuries they separated into many numerous tribes with diverse cultures. There were many common characteristics of all the Indian cultures in the New World and also many important differences. Native Americans were originally nomadic hunter and lived off the land. Spreading across both North and South America they developed societies largely based on growing corn and hunting.
