When the French and Indian War ended in 1763, North America was left completely altered. French power was completely eliminated, and North America was left to be squabbled over by Britain and Spain. The social environment of the Americas was affected by mass migrations of formerly French citizens, and the British-American colonies were selected for special taxation in return for the war effort. The war left the balance of power in the Americas highly unstable, and contentious folk on all sides began to vie for influence. Ultimately, the French and Indian War played had both an immediate effect found in the conditions of the Treaty of Paris and also held an instrumental role in laying the stage for the American Revolution.

Slavery in the 1800s

When many modern Americans look back upon the 1800s, much of the detail of the time is misconstrued. Although it is often imagined that the South was filled with plantation owners that had over 30 slaves each, reality proved to be quite different. Only about one-fifth of the Southern white population owned slaves, and of these, eighty-eight percent of them owned twenty slaves or less. The reputation of the South does not necessarily withhold when compared to legitimate facts. Despite the misconceptions surrounding southern non-slave owners, many of them still supported slavery around them for two complex reasons: owning slaves was both essential to the Southern economy and their prejudiced Southern mindset.

THE GIANT AHAP REVIEW OUTLINE! Horace Greeley High School Europeans Colonize North America (1600 ? 1640) *English Interest in Colonization* - By the sixteenth century, many countries, including Spain, France and the Netherlands, had established colonies in the New World. Until the foundation of Jamestown, however, the English didn?t have any successful permanent colonies in North America. - Prior to Jamestown, Sir Walter Raleigh of the Sea Dogs formed a joint stock company and received a charter to found a colony on Roanoke Island in 1584. It failed, and he tried again in 1585 and 1587. Both were failures, and the fate of the 1587 colony remains a mystery (all colonists disappeared).
