The 20th century was marked with a huge movement in Eastern Europe that forever changed the world. The October Revolution of 1917 gripped Russia and shook it down to its core. In this essay I will clearly analyze the opposing viewpoints in the Bolshevik and Menschevik struggles for power. This paper will give a vivid picture of Russia before 1917 and the failings of the czar Nicholas II. The rise of Lenin and his associates was a focal point in the events that led up to the eventual overthrow of the imperial regime in Russia and will therefore be analyzed and discussed as well. Finally, the establishment of a communist government and its continuation after these events will be analyzed.
