Timeline of Events Date Events/ People/ Facts 1485 to 1603 - England was ruled by the Tudor Dynasty. 1600?s - While Louis XIV perfected royal absolutism in France, England developed in a different direction (limited Monarchy). 1603 - Queen Elizabeth the first died. Without a direct heir to take her place, the throne was passed to her relative the Stuarts, the ruling family of Scotland. The First Stuart monarch was James I, and he agreed to rule according to English laws and customs. - James found himself embroiled in disputes with dissenters, Protestants who differed with the Church of England. 1625 - Charles I inherited the throne (like his father he behaved like an absolute monarch).
