The Judgment of Paris Eris= the goddess of Discord. She was disliked and excluded by the other gods. King Peleus and Thetis (a sea nymph) were getting married, and Eris wasn’t invited. So Eris rolled an apple marked “For the Fairest” into the banquet hall. Zeus wouldn’t chose between Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena- he told them to go to Mount Ida and to let Paris (a.k.a. Alexander) decide. Paris was living with Oenone, a nymph, and working as a shepherd because his father Priam had heard that Paris was to destroy Troy. In exchange for the apple, Hera offered Paris Europe and Asia. Athena offered Paris a Trojan victory over the Greeks. Aphrodite offered Paris the fairest woman in the world. Aphrodite got the apple, and the Trojan War began.
