Early Life Filippo Brunelleschi was born Florence, Italy in1377.Brunelleschi was apprenticed to a goldsmith, Benincasa Lotti. He also studied science. 1401, he signs up for a contest to make a new design for the city's baptistery (church), his opponent was a well-known sculptor by the name of Lorenzo Ghiberti. Lorenzo beats Brunelleschi. Brunelleschi, enraged by his defeat marches out of the city and goes to Rome a good friend Donatello to study the knowledge of the ancients. Back To Florence
