As Frances and Edward sat in the hot, mo i st air on July 1, 1961, the sounds of a newborn could be heard. Frances almost immediately got up. ?I will go soothe her,? she said calmly, in a somewhat disappointed manner. They were still mildly annoyed, annoyed that they had a daughter and not a son. Soon, Edward joined Frances in the quaint room that was Diana?s nursery. He used his gentle hands to rub his newborn daughter?s soft head. ?I know we were hoping for a son,? Frances broke the silence, ?but that is out of our control?. ?I know,? agreed Edward. ?Besides?we do still have plenty of time to have a son, an heir, rather. We?ll have time for an heir and a spare!? he said in sudden realization, breaking the tranquil atmosphere.
