Chapter 1: Elements of Pitch The Keyboard and Octave Registers -Pitch in music refers to the highness or lowness of a sound. -An Octave is from any C up or down to the next C. -An Octave Register is all the pitches from one C up to, but not including the next C. Notation on the Staff -On a graph with an X and Y axis, time is on the X axis while pitch is on the Y axis. -A staff is used to indicate precise pitch desired. -Ledger Lines can extend the staff indefinitely. -A clef must appear at the beginning of the staff in order to indicate which pitches are to be associated with witch lines and spaces. 3 common clefs 1) G Clef (Treble if surrounding the G) 2) F clef (Bass Clef if on the F)
