Fear can be very powerful and can lead societies to chaos. The biggest fears in the book were fears of dying and the fear of the unknown. Every body in the book had their own way of expressing their fear and what they had a fear of, but it was in everyone. In William Golding?s book The Lord of the Flies, fear is what eventually causes them to turn against each other until they are so paranoid about the beast that they kill one of the boys on the island thinking it is the beast.
