Reddit StumbleUpon Delicious After nearly 200 years, Mexico may make the name official Mexico Politics After almost 200 years after Mexico?s War of Independence, Mexico will finally attempting to pass a bill to make the country?s true name Mexico. So far the official name of Mexico has been the United Mexican States. Then on Thursday, November 22nd, Mexican President Felipe Calderon sent a letter to Mexico?s Congress requesting the country?s name be changed to just Mexico. Its currently official name, the United Mexican States, was heavily influenced by our American War of Independence when we decided on the United States of America, and over the course of 200 years Mexico has finally decided to make its own statement.
