Fisk and Jay Gould- Two millionaires that controlled the gold market in the 1860s and 1870s. They wanted the treasury to refrain from using and selling gold, but the treasury eventually released the gold. 4. ?Boss? Tweed? Leader of the infamous Tweed Ring in New York City. His motto was ?Addition, division, and silence.? The New York Times exposed and publicized the corruption and Tweed offered the Times 5 million dollars, but they declined. Tweed died behind bars.
