METHODS OF CONTRACEPTION Then are two categories of contraception: ?Non- Hormonal ?Hormonal Non ? Hormonal Methods ? Non-hormonal contraception works by either preventing sperm fertilising an egg or preventing the implantation of a fertilised egg into the lining of the womb, without using hormonal treatments such as the contraceptive pill. These methods include: ? Barrier methods ? The IUD or coil ? Natural family planning (NFP) ? Withdrawal ? Sterilisation Barrier Methods Barrier methods These are physical barriers that stop the sperm coming into contact with the egg, preventing fertilisation.
