He defeats the knight Alybon, son of the vavasour of the Queen?s ford, and Alybon returns to Camelot to commend Lancelot?s fighting prowess to Queen Guinevere. Finally, Lancelot travels to the castle called the Dolorous Guard, and defeats the knights there, with the help of enchanted shields given to him by a damsel in the service of Lady Niniane. After gaining entry to the castle, he discovers his true name and identity- Lancelot, the son of King Ban of Banwick- but decides to keep this a secret.
