?What is History?? by Edwin Fenton Why is knowledge of the past incomplete? Knowledge of the past can be considered incomplete because only a small proportion of what has happened in the past is actually documented. For example, most men and woman, or historians, may have only recorded what seemed most important, such as famous literature, new architecture and important people. This means that other events, people and the things that they did that were never written down are lost to time. History can be considered a record of events recorded in a form that has survived until the present day. Why might such documents present an inadequate view of history and why might such documents be biased?
