1 Motif: Mythic Ancestor So what? : Achieving individuality ?That night, my mythic ancestor returned after a lengthy absence. But he was less thunderous than he has ever been before and did not wake me from my sleep? (Potok 297). This quote symbolizes Asher?s guilt taking the form of his mythic ancestor. When Asher feels ridden with guilt, his mythic ancestor appears in his dreams in a barbaric and ?thunderous? way. As shown in the quote, his ancestor starts mollifying after a long ?absence?. After relieving his pressures into art, his ?mythic ancestor? has a more untroubled personality. Only at times when Asher is willing to accept himself is his mythic ancestor more understanding.
