He was effective in conveying his message and subject; urging for unity?among?different causes, peoples, and nations. Kennedy, the speaker, was elected into office during a time of political and economic turmoil, when the world was facing global schism due to issues such as the Cuban Missile crisis, the Cold War, the Vietnamese War, and the Civil Rights movements. The American nation was being torn apart by internal differences and foreign threats. John F. Kennedy was addressing the world during this time, considering the fact that the United States stood as a global powerhouse and model for other nations. His readers were of different religions, ethnicities, beliefs, and ideas.
