Recommendations

For those of you in your junior and senior years of high school, it's game time. Not only are the grade reports from these two years the most important of the four in college admissions, but it's your 11th and 12th grade teachers who will be writing (or not writing) your recommendation letters. The fact that you're even visiting this site attests your will to succeed, and I'm assuming you have your eyes on some prestigious university--one that inspires "oohs" and "aahs" at it's mere mention. The truth is that universities of this nature want the same reputation in their students, that meaning, students who themselves inspire "oohs" and "aahs". No, I'm not saying you have to be the smartest kid in your class, you just have to be amongst the most hardworking, and you have to bring some unique/special aspect of yourself to the class.
Basically, make an impression! Er, don't put on a pretentious facade, just be the best you have to offer..because well, that's the best you can be. Profound? I know. Always remember that the people who are going to be reading your applications are trying to paint a portrait based on what you and your teachers tell them. They can't paint it from memory, and they don't have you in front of them to elaborate and defend.
Pointers? Don't fall asleep in class, no matter how ridiculously exhausted you are! Be on time because punctuality really does go a long way. Participate in class, your opinions and perspectives are distinct and invaluable. Take advantage of one-on-one time with your teacher, whether he/she is editing your paper and offering suggestions, or whether he/she is helping you with a calc problem, demonstrate your highest caliber.
