Saw a special offer that might be of interest to the juniors and seniors here. U.S. News College Compass is offering a free year of their college profile search. Not sure if it's any better than some of the other resources out there, but at the cost of $0, it's not a bad option to have. Apparently Google has a special deal going on with them.
Trying to find a college scholarship to help you continue your education you will have to approach various sources. One of them is your own community - the hospitals and foundations among which many give scholarships to students who want to attend a college in the specific state or in a specific study field.
Social networking is the standard today, especially with students. Its unusual for people not to engage in some form of networking through technology, whether it is Facebook, Twitter or through cell phones. Social interaction is not the only use for networking, it can be used to boost your studies and progress your learning through crowdsourcing education.
Recently, a devastating earthquake struck the nation of Haiti. With an estimated death toll exceeding 200,000, this is amongst the decade's deadliest tragedies. The international community came together to help. President Obama promised $100 million in aid to Haiti. Likewise, a South American summit pledged $300 million. Course-Notes Senior Editor, Brooke Barnett, wrote an inspiring article about the efforts being made at her school and in her community. Please click here to read Brooke's article.
Course-Notes Senior Editor Brooke Barnett give her input regarding college applications: Applying for colleges can be cumbersome. In addition to good test scores, high GPA, AND tons of essays, applying for colleges can become a real downer. Here are some tips to help build your prerequisite for starting the application process. 1. Start Early! People always talk about how you should take your tests in advance…You really should.
Course-Notes Senior Editor Sehe Han give her input regarding college applications:
The season of college application has passed, and here I am now, just reflecting. To start my reflection, here is the list of the colleges that I have applied to. I will make this reading somewhat informal for you guys simply for convenience.
College application information and advice from Vicki Shen, Course-Notes Deputy Editor-in-Chief: The college application process is a stressful period in the life of many seniors, what with writing essays, asking teachers for recommendations, submitting financial aid forms, preparing supplements, and so on. In my case, I avoided most of this stress early on by deciding exactly what I wanted in a college. For example, I looked at four-year schools, not too far from home, but distant enough for me to feel independent.
College application information and advice from Brandon Trac, a Course-Notes Editor: Though the college application process may seem daunting, it actually is not that bad when you allow yourself some time. It was easier for me, as I only applied to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and USC*. I was able to handle all the UCs with one application, which allowed me to save a lot of time. For USC, I used one of my UC essays and added a few sentences, therefor meeting the requirements for their essay.
