Junior year is when things get tough and also the year when people expect to know your future goals.
“So what are you planning to be?”, “What are you majoring in?”, “What’s your SAT score?”, “What are your friends planning to do?”. – Just a few of those questions that adults throw at us and are just so hard to answer.
Making decisions for your future goal isn’t an easy task, especially with family pressuring you towards one thing and having friends who have their future set and planned. But no one around you should interfere with your own decisions. Other people’s opinion should not change what you want to do.
Everyone is born with some kind of special talent: dance, music, sports, etc. Some people might be good at math, while others are good at writing. When you are to choose a career, choose something YOU are good at or YOU enjoy not what your friends enjoy or your parents want.
In this world we have a variety of jobs and they need different people for different jobs. Just because your friend is going to be a doctor and has his/her college and everything planned, doesn’t mean you should follow his/her footsteps, because you might be talented at something else.
If you’re good at math, go into business or accounting. If you like science, there is a wonder of different jobs out there. If art is your thing, go for it! Take a chance and try to do what you’ll love. Whatever career you choose will be your everyday schedule. You won’t want to wake up and dread to go to work, you would want to love what you do. You would also want to think about doing something in which you will still have time to breath and enjoy yourself. If you are planning to have kids and a family, you might want to do something that will still give you time to spend with them.
It may be tough making your own decisions but that’s what life’s about. One step, one decision at a time is all it takes to get started. Your path will have obstacles and it might not always go your way, but all you have to do is keep going and achieve your dreams. Where would all these athletes, artists, teachers, CEOs, veterinarians, etc. be if they didn’t follow their dreams?
