How to Avoid Distractions by Prranit Vaswani

Let me start off by saying I was the most distracted person I have ever known my entire life. But all that changed as soon as I put in some effort.

Now on with the list:

• Firstly, know what you have to do (your assignment) and when it is due.
• Plan accordingly how much time you will have to spend to finish your assignment(s).
• Work is your priority. Well, your life is your priority, but work is next. Pleasure/entertainment comes later.
• Have a study table. Don’t study on your bed or any other place where you do other things.
• Sit upright! Sounds weird but it really helps you focus on your work.
• Do not listen to music! Especially when you are doing some important work. Why? Because imagine a good song starts playing, you will start enjoying yourself and stop thinking about your work. (This one happened to me many times!)
• *Cool Tip* When working on a computer (if you need to type something) turn off your internet. It is the most distracting piece of technology ever invented.
• If you are doing research (where you actually need the internet) turn off all chatting programs, and all social websites (Facebook, MySpace etc.)
• Keep in mind that everything you feel like doing, you will be able to do more of it and peacefully once you finish your work.
• Don’t keep “cool, entertaining things” near you while you work.
• Keep your phone switched off or on silent.
• Think far! Think why you are doing this work and how much MORE beneficial it will be than goofing around.
• Lastly, if your parents observe you studying and focusing, they tend to reward you. On the other hand if you’re listening to loud music and on the computer they will be rather disappointed. (Being on the good books of your parents is really a bonus :D )
