High School should be a time of friends, freedom, and new experiences. Unfortunately, high school isn’t always this way. It’s an emotional rollercoaster, a lottery, to get days when you have little homework and few activities. Other days, the ones that just sneer in your face and make you want to buy a pack of Depends, you get a test the next day, a paper, Boy Scouts, a Football game, and three hours of work. The thing is, this misery doesn’t always last. It sucks now, but it always gets better.
I’m about to take you, my naïve listener, on a psychedelic journey into the past. Take some acid and get ready to hear some freaky words. Your parents were once… in High School! This is shocking, strange, and weird, I understand, but rest assured, it all means something. Look around. You probably have a home, car, and computer. You might not be rich, but you are better than 90% of the world. Think your parents went smooth sailing through high school to get all that? Not a chance. They suffered, failed, and had bad stuff thrown in their face. The point is, life goes on.
Just imagine when you are in school, and all your work begins piling up. It might seem like the end of the world if you have to fail an assignment, but just think from the future. Will this paper affect your class grade? Will that affect your chances of getting into college? Will that ruin your chances for the job you want? Chances are: No, this assignment isn’t that important. Take a breath and go back to work.
I’m not saying don’t try or care. All I’m saying, is that this High School Anxiety doesn’t mean anything. In a few years, it won’t matter if you did poorly on one five paragraph essay. Do your best, but don’t stress out. Save the misery for later, have fun in High School. The main problem with the high school life is it causes you to worry. Don’t worry, do your best, and you’ll do fine. High school is full of misery, but just look back and remember how big of a dope you were for believing that it was the most important thing you will do in your life.
