This article isn’t for juniors or seniors finalizing their plans for the future. It’s for freshmen and sophomores navigating their way through the world of college planning. Everyone has their dreams about what they want to do when they grow up and which colleges they want to attend. For many, the high school years fly by and those dreams become closer than they ever imagined.
If you’re a freshman or sophomore, it may still be early to get too worked up in the college stuff but it always helps to be prepared. There are so many great resources that can point you in the right direction. Look it up! Many colleges offer pre-college summer programs where you can enhance your academic skills and meet new people. Also, many high schools host college fairs or college seminars with representatives from different colleges and booklets and brochures that tell you a lot about the college process.
Websites like College Board and Peterson’s have weekly or monthly newsletters for high school freshmen and sophomores. They tell you about which colleges are best for you and they even have and SAT question of the day. Also, if you check out the Course-Notes store there are a lot of helpful books and magazines with all that college info.
It may seem like a crazy place but your own school can be pretty helpful too. Ask around! Talk to your teachers, your friends, and especially guidance counselors. Guidance counselors are very insightful and they’re reliable resources for college info. When it gets to be that time, some guidance counselors will even make up a list of colleges that are the best for you. It may seem like too much to keep track of, but you still have time and the fact that you’re interested in preparing is so beneficial to you.
