Our class is on the block schedule and have been going since early november, we are currently studying the time period right before WWI (ie 1912 election, progressivism, etc)
So...How far are you? and another question too...does your class do simulations where you get to act stuff out as a class? Like currently, I'm Wilson's campaign manager in the election of 1912. Its pretty interesting... :D
My class in Minnesota has a test tommarow 3/15/05 on ch 31-33 (WW1-right up to the depression.
And no we don't acted stuff out we have had a few debates and things but not much and very little skits.
i got a test on chp 39 on wednesday <__<
Chapter 42
our clas is beginning WWI tomm. we just finished the worst period in American history as far as Key ideas go, progressism.
We don't do any special simulations, because we only have a 55 minute class. we do however use many supplemental readings, such as Nash and Zinn. (we use Blum as our main text, with other books as other esources.)
----Jake
Loveland, Ohio and we are doin a 45 minute all year class, we are on the booming 20's, (ch 35 maybe?) :p
We're up to WWII. From NY. 1 more month before the test. Our teacher just dictates to us his notes. It's a bore but we're FINALLY doing a debate next week on the Cold War. Can't wait.

my class has a test tomorrow on the roaring 20s and then the politics of boom and bust. yeah our teacher does the samething is horrible, we dont even debate! or act stuff out. the most "fun" thing we've done is read play and the only reason its fun is that we dont have to do anything
Hmm...I know this is a college course and all, is it common for highschools to have it? How many of you are taking it in highschool, and also does anyone know if it's a good idea to be taking it in highschool? The mindset around campus is slack off all the time and you'll still pass. If I was paying for this course, I would probably know more than I do... I'm guessing this could hurt me when it comes time for the AP Exam. Argh. I'm currently trying to catch up on chapters i've not yet read, but it doesn't seem like i'm getting anywhere. I think i'm behind 10 chapters already... I'm sooo lazy! I hope I can change my attitude soon.
In the class, we usually have a lecture every day and a debate. The debate usually consists of about 2 people, me and some other guy... I'm starting to think that America is going to crap(Where have I been, Asleep all year?). Most people in the class are failing and don't seem to mind. I'm just beginning to attempt to put effort into this. I've recently viewed a college discussion on the 2003 US AP History Exam and saw mostly a confident attitude in everyone. They seemed so sure about passing with a 5, one person even said that his professor would be angry if someone did NOT receive a 5.
I'm not too sure about all of this, do all of you actually expect to pass with a perfect score, or are just shooting for that 3 , as many of my classmates are. Actually only half of the class is even taking the AP Test... That's sort of funny. I know so far that it will be the hardest test I will ever take, or that's what i've been told.
Any responses would be appreciated, also if you can tell me i'm not alone, I might be compelled to write again.
OH! I just wanted to say that this site is a lifesaver!!
Thanks alot, Chris!

I see alot of posts from March 15-19, did none of you have Spring Break vacation?
We are on Chapter 34, and we'll be covering up to Chapter 36 by the end of March. We will get through 37-40 by the second week of April, and then finish the book one week before the AP exam. We then will spend the week before the AP exam reviewing.
(Of course, I'm also taken AP European History which happens to be the EXACT SAME DAY, so it'll be hectic the next few weeks.) I expect to get a 4 or a 5 on the exam only because I love US History.... Euro - I'll be lucky to get a 3...

Kaervek, I would recomment this class to anybody. I, before this year, was a straight A student. A's were my life, I knew nothing else. This year, because of this class, I have entered the real world, where no matter how hard you try, sometimes you don't always do as well. While this just maybe my paticualr situation at this paticular school, it has taught my a valuable lesson that I am glad I learned now rather than in college.
Also, while I do consider myself a bit of a "history buff", I have learned a ton in this class about history, from the text we are using, from my teacher, and plenty from outside sources.
And as for the "getting a 5" score, remember a 5 is not perfect. A 5 will still have mistakes. A "5" is just the "top" score, not the "perfect" score. And don't shoot for that 3, always shoot higher than what you know you can get, shoot for that 5 man.
