Need Notes?
While we strive to provide the most comprehensive notes for as many high school textbooks as possible, there are certainly going to be some that we miss. Drop us a note and let us know which textbooks you need. Be sure to include which edition of the textbook you are using! If we see enough demand, we'll do whatever we can to get those notes up on the site for you!
along wrote:In conclusion, and you anti-war/anti-torture/anti-ect people are gonna love this, the US military is one of if not THE most humane military in the world and if you are whining about less than perfect conditions for terrorists bent on destroying yours and my way of life, look at their prisoners and see how much sympathy they would give you.
How ridiculous of an arguement is that? So, it's okay to disregard natural rights because we don't do it nearly as bad as everyone else?
For us to commit any act of torture, no matter how small would be incredibly hypocritical, using torture to protect "freedom"? Wow. Besides, torture doesn't work. People will say anything to get you to stop.
And of course terrorists are evil people who deserve kicks to the faces with spiked boots dipped in battery acid, but the detainees being tortured have yet to be convicted of their crimes. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?
In a way, along is right and wrong. America may be more humane compared to other militaries, but that doesn't mean soldiers can torture Iraqi prisoners. No one deserves torture. And erikvarho is right. You can't torture someone just because they were accused of something and it hasn't been found to be true and take away their human rights. Well, we can exclude Bin Laden :) (he's a monster), but I don't think he deserves torture, but then again...what should we do with him when we catch him...? Instead of torture, how about public humiliation?...:D... eh, that can be torture for him too, but giving him death is too nice. I think death is much more sweeter than endless hours of painful torture.
And it's wrong to torture someone just because they tortured your friends/families/etc. You would fall into their level of sadistic beings...
The below statement is false.

Well, I would like to state that Torture of prisoners is already illegal. Detainees are not tortured. The has been highly exaggerated and misinterpreted in the media.
The argument today, with the Mccain amendment and everything, is over matters such as depriving the prisoners of sleep and food and other things to try to break their spirit.

Mental torture is still torture.
It's different, but yes, it essentially *is* torture.
We are referring to physical torture in this debate, however.

Says who?
The thread initiator.
"What are your thoughts on torture?" implies talking about all types of torture.

"To many people spend money on things they don't need, to impress people they don't like, with money they don't have."
"When all else fails read the directions."
All torture has a mental element.
