93750238Diocletian (284-305 CE)Diocletian divided the Empire into two administrative districts to deal with the problem of a large empire. A co emperor ruled each district with the aid of a powerful lieutenant and four officials known as tetrarchs. He was a skillful administrator that brought Rome's many armies under imperial control and strengthened the imperial currency. Diocletians reforms encouraged ambition among the four top co rulers and his retirement from office set off a round of internal struggles and bitter civil war.0
93750239Mani (216-272 CE)Mani was a devout Zoroastrian from Babylon who drew deep influence from Christianity and Buddhism. Mani saw a need for a prophet for all humanity and he promoted a syncretic blend of Zoroastrian, Christian, and Buddhist elements as a religious faith that would serve the needs of a cosmopolitan world. Mani was a dualist who viewed the world as the site of a cosmic struggle between the forces of light and darkness, good and evil. He promoted an ascetic lifestyle and insisted that disciples observe high ethical standards. Mani was also a fervent missionary who traveled widely to promote his faith. He died in chains as a prisoner of the Sasanid emperor.1
