People rallied around him in hopes that he would be a "redeemed tsar" who could save them from oppression. A rebellion occurred which ended in the death of hundreds of noble families and, finally, his arrest, torture, and execution. | |

He won and was released and given damages, but when he was reelected Parliament refused to give him his seat.
