Legalizing Marijuana?

Not only have a large percentage of Americans smoked marijuana at one point in their lives, it's less harmful than alcohol as well. Legalizing marijuana would have a huge impact on our economy, I think we'd have a lot of new jobs in the farming industry, and you'd see lots of new businesses emerging to sell it to the masses (instead of Miller Lite it'd be Miller's Bud). Businesses could make a lot of money off of this, and off of that the government would make a sizable amount of money simply based off of taxing the profits of the individual businesses. Then you could also free up the legal system by releasing all non-violent criminals sentenced because of marijuana charges, and you'd have much less misdemeanor cases taking up the time of the court system.

I think that it should be legalized and given the same restrictions as alcohol. 21 to buy and even put the punishments like dui and public intoxication on it also.

i am a strong supporter of the legalization of marijuana. I have come to find that there is much use of marijuana in many places such as medical and economical resources. If just the state of California would legalize marijuana we could have a profit of 14 billion dollars to help our budget crisis putting money back in schools and health care of the populace. also marijuana i a medication for those suffering from cancer and i have watched my aunt suffer i know first hand that the medications given seem to just create more problems. my final thought is the old saying that marijuana is a gateway drug this is an opinion presented and used as a fact, so those who believe this statement should really do some research and understand the effects in both view points.

It will most likely help the economy and our national debt due to the fact that the government will no doubt tax the hell out of it. So, I agree with legalization.

Not only from a revenue standpoint, but also from a cost standpoint. Think of all of the costs related to policing it, prison costs for those in jail because of marijuana charges, etc.

Medical marijuana is legal here in California and you see more than "enough" pot clubs. Just imagine if it was legalized.

Yes I understand that policing and all the jazz costs money but I just can't get it through my head that marijuana can be legalized. I would hate to see people smoking pot wherever I go, reminding me of the unfavorable parts of society.

I think we should legalize it because we're clogging the jails with people who don't even belong in there. If someone wants to smoke marijuana, let them. The effects of it, good or bad, are their own fault.

Let the states decide it, The Federal Government has no right to do that. And the states should not make any laws on it, because it's none of the government's business what people does to their OWN body.

Because some don't like it, you would like to force others to do the same?

I will never smoke Marijuana myself, but that is not the way a free society should act. People should be able to do whatever they want with their OWN bodies, whatever happens is their fault.

I have never smoked marijuana and hopefully never will, but I think that marijuana should be legalized but with limits such as not smoking it in public, putting a high age limit, and arresting those who harm others because of drug use. If drug users want to harm their own bodies, then I say go ahead; the world will not be missing out on anything when they overdose and die. However, when subjecting others to drugs or abuse because of drugs, then that is when the police should step in. This is why I think that drug users can go ahead and smoke marijuana PRIVATELY, so they are only hurting themselves. Also, if the person on drugs becomes so high that the person is attacking others or is greatly inhibited by the drug (example: when driving), then the person on drugs should be arrested.
