Suicide

Hey guys I haven't visited for a while but for a pretty good reason... one of my best friends attempted suicide on friday. That isn't even the worst part you see it started when I saw him after school and he was obviously upset about something. well I tried talking to him but he shut down and wouldn't talk, so I told him to call me when he felt like talking. He called me two hours later just crying his eyes out, i gave him some advice, then he asked if I could come over to keep him from doing something stupid. I of course said yes but only if I could (i'm grounded at this point in time) but my dad thought I was messing with him just to get out of grounding. I couldn't get a hold of my friend after that. the next morning I get a call from this kids mom and she says that he's in the hospital after overdosing really bad on prescription meds. This made my weekend a total nightmare.
I was so depressed that I snuck out of my house saturday night to go to a party cuz I knew there was booze. I got totally drunk and accidentally told this story to this one girl I really like, through a text message, along with a note telling her how much I like her. (this is the same girl from the dating and relationships forum)
I tell you this story so you can analyze not only the idea behind suicide itself but its effect on people around you. Why would you put other people through so much pain and suffering just to get rid of yours?

Wow...whatever your friend was going through, it must've been pretty tough. But then again, suicide isn't a solution to anything. From my views, suicide is pretty selfish and cowardly. You hurt yourself, your friends, families, and people around you. Even if you are depressed, you should seek help and overcome it with help from friends, families, and even counselors, not try to escape the problems by killing yourself...

I get depressions myself; everyone does. If you knew what kinds of difficult situations I went through and what kinds of stress I still get daily, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be any different from your depressions. The only difference is that I don't let depression control me. I control it. How? Hanging out with friends, eating (yep, but for some reason, I'm scrawny  that doesn't mean you should :p), and even exercising/playing favorite sport.

As for you... did partying and drinking alcohol helped in any way? I'm pretty sure that it didn't. No matter how depressed you were, you shouldn't have snuck out to go drinking. Like your friend, you allowed depression get to you . I'm not trying to be harsh or anything but it's true. If people let depression get to their heads what do they do? Drink, drugs, smoke, and even suicides.

Even if the going gets tough, don't let troubles mess with your life. You should be able to overcome it. If you can't, ask someone close to help you...they can be your strength when you won't be able to handle it.

For your friend, I hope he'll be better soon. You should remind him that there are people who do care about him (like you). People who attempt suicides won't kill themselves if they know that there are people who care. You should talk to him a lot after he gets better. And help him out by hanging around a bit more. That's what friends are for. Good luck to him :).

Have you ever met someone with trust issues? Things can get pretty complicated.

Yes I have, but suicide isn't answer! Like I said, if things are too complicated seek help instead of feeling depressed and bottling it up inside of you. That's what these people lack; asking for help when they can get one!!! If you don't let anyone else know, you'll probably do something extremely dumb. And "things can get pretty complicated"??? Everyone has problems and situations that gets complicated! Everyone gets stressed out. How do these people handle it? Hmm, umm...they have 'help.' Also, one person isn't enough! Like Capt. Canada, his friend asked for his help. But his friend could have also sought help from counselors, teachers, and parents! And when he couldn't help, his friend did something terrible...

So what's your solution? Leave these depressed people alone since their situations are too complicated?

Sorry, if it sounds caustic, but it's true. People who attempt suicide are very selfish... Leaving them alone impacts everyone... I can't stand it when people don't try to help...

Wow, you need to seriously chill AP_Work_R. I never meant to imply, well, anything that you said. This is simply a very personal matter for me. I don't really want to post everything that I have to say. I agree, people need to seek the help of friends (plural), family, teachers, coaches, counsellors, or whoever they feel comfortable talking with. I have expressed my opinions to Capt. Canada, but I don't really want everyone to read it.

No problem.

But FYI, I'm not the kind of person who would say something like that on a thread. I feel that those kinds of comments are best kept in PM's.

no, suicide is not the answer, but getting help isn't as easy as you made it seem AP_Work_R.
especially if they try to ask for help... having your friends grounded or too busy or they just think it's not a big deal doesn't really help.
