Ideas?

The question is:
"One historian has written, 'the British ruled the colonies for 150 years and lost them in 12.' Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not? Use as many specific facts in your answer as possible.

Anybody have any ideas?

This is the thesis I have for now: I disagree that the British lost the colonies in only twelve years, because the British always had policies toward America that separated them.

Actually, I like your thesis. Does your essay have to be written in 1st person?

If not, then you can just reword the thesis to:
"One historian once wrote: 'the British ruled the colonies for 150 years and lost them in 12', but in actuality, the British never really ruled the colonies for there were policies and geographical obsticals (sp?) that seperated the colonies from Britian."

capitalization? who the heck came up with this horrible rule?!

Actually, It's not supposed to be in first person :S
So thanks, because I probably wouldn't have remembered that. By the way, good thesis :)
Now for the fun part... filling in the information! Thanks for the help.

No problem. I didn't really do much. I basically rephrased yours. ^^
