Okay, we have this take home essay assignment due tomorrow and there are three questions and we are supposed to choose one of them.
The first one is
Which of the following do you think was most responsible for the conflict between Britain and the American colonies?
a) the ineptness of parliamentary leadership
b) the colonists' militant anti-tax beliefs
c) the hard headedeness of King George III and his ministry
d) the differences in ideology between Americans and the mother country
e) the effectiveness of American propagandists like Sam Adams
Personally, I think it is D because don't all the other choices seem to fall into that category? If you could give me your opinion on what you think that'd be awesome.
The other two questions are
Thomas Jefferson and many other founding fathers were slaveowners. Why, then, did Jefferson state in the Declaration of Independence that "all men are created equal?"
I don't know about that one. The only thing I can think of is that all men are equal when they are born and no man possesses any special traits at that time that make them more or less equal than another man. It's what they do in their lives and limitations caused by like their region they live in and things that show the differences?
and
What was the essential cause of the American victory in the War for Independence? Did the Americans (and French) really win the war on the battlefield or was it then lack of British political will that led to independence?
That one I really have no clue on.

one thing about question two was to note how the declaration of independence was almost entirely a copy of John Locke's ideas. Jefferson may have even disagreed with some of it but it was basically never his own ideas.
Yeah, but I don't understand why if he, himself, owned slaves why he would have that in the Declaration of Independence. I'm not seeing the deeper meaning I guess?

maybe the declaration was just a statement to ease the masses? you do realize taht most of the declaration is bs, we actually dont have that much freedom (granted more tahn most but...) I guess im taking the conspiracy view but maybe he wrote it to gain support ofr the new country.

What do you mean by ease the masses exactly? Like .. he did it just to ease the events that were going on at that time or something?

declaration was mostly made up to unite the peoples and try to get other countries (France) in the war to help the colonists, how does that have anything to do with slaves and freedom for all?
alot. it means he was hypocritical. thats very important to mention.

no i meant that what the declaration was actually was written for back then had no meaning towards freedom for people ( they have absolutely nothing to do with them)
that's true but the question apushsucks is asking has alot to do w it.

not really, she is asking since Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner then why did he write in the declaration of independence that all men were created equal when he himself owned slaves. i know that he was hypocritical but why did he put that in there? That's all she is asking
eh doesnt matter, let her decide what she needs. its only my insight into teh matter. im not quite in tune w history anyways, im more of an essayist.
